Dear Aunty Clara,

Tuesday

There isn't much to write about today because I didn't do anything. In fact this afternoon I just got so groggy that I had to go to sleep and no one bothered me or anything until I woke up at four o'clock. Sure I had work to do but something made me feel dopey and I knocked off for the three afternoon hours although I did a bit of work after waking up.

Last night because of the rain, Pedro never did show up with Lewis's laundry, but bright and early this morning he was here with it. He just had not gone to work. When I asked him about that he said that there were plenty of fellows to do his job and that he had promised to return the laundry and he had to keep his promise. Then he picked up some more from Moreno and from Captain Ladley (no, he's Major Ladley now).

Time does fly. It is past dinner or supper time now and the light is beginning to fade once again. I'll have to rush to get these letters out before the light gives way entirely. You see, the lights haven't been attached to this new office for the last two nights on account of because they have had and are going to have movies and with only one generator set up, they decided that the headquarters section could continue to do without the lights for a little while longer.

I did not go to the show yesterday. They showed two of them. One was the film we missed down on the other Island we were on after VE day occurred and it explains all about how a soldier can be demobilized. The other film was "Cinderella Jones" with Joan Leslie and Allan Jones but I didn't bother, about going out in the rain to see it.

In fact, what I did do was to catch up on some lost sleep because I made up my bed and hung up the mosquito netting. Then I crawled in bed and by flashlight tried to read them. It was a difficult task for the batteries were very low. And before Tattoo sounded for the night I had begun dozing off. Naturally I woke up before the First Call this morning but I didn't bother getting out of bed until that time.

The morning hours were filled with office work such as Morning Reports and Officer Pay Vouchers which I am still working on. That was all there was.

Now more time has passed. I had an opportunity to take my first shower since landing on this island and I took advantage of it. Just in time too before it was too late. Prior to that the only way to wash was out of a helmet.

I'm CQ in the office this evening while the others go to a required show. Pedro came in and gave out the wash but he has already gone. My flashlight is shot and it is dark once again so I believe that this evening this one letter will have to suffice. People come popping in and out like firecrackers and interrupting a person.

The 10 in 1 rations were excellent this evening. The fellows got full packs of cigarettes, Milky Way candy bars and we had roast beef, string beans and blackberry jam with saltine crackers.

So-long,   /s/ Roman   Roman
