Dear Aunty Clara,

8:00 Saturday

Another article which you sent to me which is proving to be invaluable is the can opener. A lot of fellows are wondering where I've picked up these "clever" items and seem surprised when I say "Sent home for them." One thing is for sure that if we ever get into another overseas war and I'm that unfortunate enough to find myself in it, I know that all the little tricks of the trade on how to make life comfortable will be marked down in my little black book.

By the way, tomorrow morning after Mathis gets back from mass, we are going to take Captain Cook's jeep out to the river to wash it and have his permission to use it until 5:00 in the evening. That's okay, isn't it? We plan to wash the car thoroughly in the morning and then come back to the camp to eat lunch. After that we expect to ride down to the Service Club, take a look around and then ride around to whatever points of interest we may find on the island. I'll have to do all the driving because Mathis hasn't a GI driver's license. Anyone can have a weapon carries anytime they get a acquisition filled out but it isn't as often a person can get hold of a jeep.

So-long,
/s/ Roman
