Dear Aunty Clara,

Friday

I'm writing this Friday morning on the 23rd but dated it the 22nd because it is really a letter or a note for that date. Here is the story: I did not write any other letter besides the one about the tooth being pulled. Why? Simply because about one-thirty or so I took off from work because my effectiveness was reduced and I didn't have much work to do anyway that made it imperative for me to be down here.

After I took out the pad of cotton or whatever it was stuck up there in my former tooth place, the darn thing began bleeding. Not much but enough to keep my mouth full of blood at intervals. By resting on my cot I at least kept the thing from getting too bad. Nonetheless, at five o'clock I got up and found three letters waiting for me at the office. I read them and ate. After supper, at seven o'clock there was an NCO meeting at which Hanton took everyone down a peg or two for not acting like non-coms etcetera --- his usual line of patter at such meetings which he has held quite often in the past. At eight o'clock I was in bed again to further rest the tooth and help the healing process along. It is okay now/

So-long,
/s/ Roman
