Dear Aunty Clara,
Just for a change, I have decided to handwrite a letter to you. We have but a few minutes to go before suppertime so this will be brief. I sent the payroll to Lt. London last night to have several men sign it and it hasn't come back yet. As things turned out the payroll doesn't have to be in until Monday or maybe even Tuesday. I accomplished very little today as far as work went. Several items which took quite a good time to finish turned out to be useless work --- so you can see how my time was lost.
In a few days we are going to look like World War I soldiers as we are issued campaign hats. They are the kind my Dad wore on most of his 1918 pictures. They will look a lot better than the fatigue hat we now wear.
One fellow in our company bought a horse from a farmer for $15. The horse was complete with the saddle and the price seems to be unbelievably low. He could easily rent it out at $1.00 a day and get back the original cost.
As I have already told you in yesterday's letter, I am running the show again this evening but since it is a short film, I believe I will have time to write another letter this evening.
The boys have been eating for quite a few minutes now and Larry came up to me and asked if I intend eating tonight. I do - so --
