Dear Aunty Clara:

As you well know, I spent a greater part of yesterday's working hours writing letters to you. As a result, I will have to spend the greater part of today doing that work. I wasn't in the mood for it on Monday anyway and today I think I can handle it in short order.

If I don't get a chance to write again during the daytime you will now know the reason why.

Blumenfeld and I went to the Ice Arena last night and had a fine time. I even started skating backwards. It seems funny trying a stunt like that when I can't even skate forwards very well. But I guess that is the only way to get familiar and be at ease on the skates.

The hardest thing in the world for me to do is to stop dead in my tracks on those things the way others do. We plan to go more often so that both he and I improve our form etcetera in skating. I hope we stay here long enough for me to become fairly well accustomed to ice skates; for it is a lot of fun.

Incidentally, that gal that looks or reminds me of Dolores in Price's Sandwich Bar was skating there all alone. Poor girl, she looked so lonely too. Now, if I knew how to skate well, I could have been the dashing soldier who skated up and helped her around the floor. Ah well, one pipe dream after another.

Blumenfeld on the other hand was wanting to skate with an Army nurse. That I think is forbidden (verboten) because they are second lieutenants and are not allowed to mix with privates. He became tired early so we left shortly after 9:00 P.M.

There were quite a few of these army nurses and army officers there. One old major was skating with five nurses at once. He had a lot of nerve! One captain was just learning how to ice skate and he looked ridiculous on skates. Say, what am I talking about! I probably look the same way to others.

Sorry, but I have to sign off now.

Solong,

P.S. Our companies are working on a double shift basis and as a result we have two Reveilles. One is at 5:00 and the other at 7:00. Naturally, you know which one to get up for. That means an extra hour of sleep in the morning and I still keep the same working hours in the office.
