         11TH = ELEVEN FROM BIRTC, CAMP ROBINSON, ARKANSAS

         15TH = FOUR FROM ERTC, FT. LEONARD WOOD, MO.

         17TH - THIRTY-FOUR FROM BIRTC, CAMP ROBERTS, CA.

         18TH - NINETY-ONE FROM BIRTC, CAMP ROBINSON, ARKANSAS

         18TH = ONE FROM RECEPTION CENTER PRESIDIO MONTEREY

         

              ON THE 14TH CAPT. WILLIAM B. STELZENMULLER, REGIMENTAL

         EXECUTIVE OFFICER WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR.

         

              ON THE 21ST THE 353RD WAS RELIEVED FROM THE 91ST

         INFANTRY DIVISION AND ATTACHED TO SPECIAL TROOPS, IX CORPS,

         FT. LEWIS, WASH.

         

              ON THE 27TH CAPT. JOHN S. FULTON REPORTED FOR DUTY FROM

         CAMP HOOD, TEXAS.

         

              ON THE 26TH THE 1ST TRAINING COMPANY STARTED BASIC

         TRAINING. THIS COMPANY WAS FOR TRAINING ONLY, PERSONNEL

         REMAINED FOR ALL OTHER PURPOSES ASSIGNED TO THEIR ORIGINAL

         COMPANIES.

         

              UNIT STRENGTH: 38 OFFICERS - 334 ENLISTED MEN



         OCTOBER 1942:

         

              DURING THIS MONTH THE FOLLOWING LINE OFFICERS, ALL 2ND

         LTS., REPORTED FROM OFFICERS CANDIDATE SCHOOL AT FT BELVOIR,

         VA. BURRELL, YANTIS, CARROZZA, YAP, PODELWITZ, SMALL,

         CHAPPELL, KRIEFSKI, DUNCAN, FINAUER, QUEHL & DARROW.

         

              A REGIMENTAL WIDE CONTEST WAS CONDUCTED FOR A 353RD

         NICKNAME. THE RECORDS DO NOT GIVE THE WINNER, BUT THE

         BULLDOZERS WAS THE NAME SELECTED.

         

              THE NAME APPEARED ON THE FOOTBALL TEAM’S JERSEYS FOR

         OUR 1ST GAME WITH THE 241ST FIELD ARTILLERY ON THE 26TH

         WHICH WE WON BY A SCORE OF 6 - 0. IT WAS PLAYED ON OUR HOME

         FIELD WHICH WAS COVERED WITH SAWDUST TO ABSORB SOME OF THE 

         AGATE DESERT MUCK. THE STARTING LINE WAS: O’MALLEY, MAY,

         BEEK, ARMSTRONG, HAYNES, VICKERS, HARPER - AVERAGING 181

         LBS. A MAN. IN THE BACKFIELD WERE BURROWS, PETRI,

         GOLDENBURG & WARNER - AVERAGING 179 LBS. A MAN. RESERVES
